INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERS

IndividualsThanks again for considering the Volunteer Opportunities at the ReStore! When you volunteer, you are helping your community in two vital ways: First, your efforts will help Habitat for Humanity to build more homes in partnership with families in need in Charlotte, and you also help the ReStore to help our environment by keeping usable items out of the landfill. We're looking forward to seeing you soon!

Here’s how it works:

1. Check the list below to see what option and time commitment would be the best fit for you.

 2. Contact Lisa Morrison, the Volunteer Coordinator to set up a tour of the store and discuss your interests. (704-716-7040 x 2 or lmorrison@charlotterestore.org)

Book Lover- Our book section (housed inside Julia's Coffee at the Wendover Road location) is undergoing an expansion;  we're looking for folks to join the Book Team to sort donated books, learn our pricing system, keep the section organized and separate the jewels from the junk.

Mr./Ms. Fix-it – A wobbly leg or scratch can mean the death of otherwise good donations; with a little attention (repair, refinishing, etc), these items can not only help raise funds for Habitat, they can also be rescued from unnecessarily cluttering our landfills. We’re looking for someone to help provide some TLC to our furniture and other items that need touch-ups.

Adopt-an-area- To be the best we can for Habitat for Humanity, the sections of the store should be as neat and attractive as possible for customers.  With so many sections, it’s hard to keep up, and we’re looking for volunteers to adopt-an-area. Examples are plumbing, lighting, furniture & home decor. Come on, get creative and make our merchandise look its best!

Pricing Team- With donations coming in daily, the backroom can get swamped.  Armed with a pricing guide and a pricing gun, the team sorts, prices, and sends the donations out to the floor. You never know what's coming in, and you'll be the first to see all the incredible stuff that people donate to the ReStore, from basic couches and sinks to Jet-Skis and church pews and everything in between!

Cashier- The front register staff are the first people a shopper sees at the ReStore. We're looking for folks who like to interact with people throughout the day and feel comfortable running a cash register. You'll spend your time with our great staff and volunteers while meeting people from your community, all of whom are supporting Habitat!

Special Events- The ReStore has a number of special events throughout the year, including an Earth Day extravaganza in April and an outdoor Book Sale twice a year, in the summer and autumn. We always need volunteers to come out and help during these events, either for a single shift or the whole day. Email or call the volunteer coordinator to be added to the Special Events list, and we'll contact you when an event is approaching to give you the details and let you know what volunteer positions need to be filled.
