FAQ: Volunteers PDF Print E-mail

Q: What should I wear to volunteer at the ReStore?
A: Wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and closed toe/heel shoes (athletic shoes or boots are best, no ballet slippers, crocs, heels, clogs, sandals, etc.).

Q: I'll be there all day, do you provide lunch?
A: The ReStore does not provide lunch, but there are several lunch options close by. For Wendover: Julia's Coffee, located in the same building, serves a variety of sandwiches and has fountain drinks as well as coffee drinks. There is also a Subway, KFC, McDonald's, and Food Lion within walking distance of the store. For Wilkinson: Subway (inside the Walmart), Burger King (across the street), Church's Chicken, and a few other local places.

Q: I'm supposed to start at 9AM, but the store doesn't open until 10AM. How do I get in?
A:
You can either knock on the front door and try to get someone's attention, or (for volunteers at Wendover) go in through the Julia's Coffee. There is a door that connects to the ReStore.

Q: I would love to get my family more involved. Can I bring my kids along with me?
A: The minimum age for volunteering at the ReStore is 14. Sorry, no exceptions.

Q: Can I bring a group along?
A:
Certainly! We have groups of up to 15 people volunteer at the ReStore. Contact the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to set up a time to bring your group out. Please note, all volunteer groups must be scheduled in advance.

Q: What will I be doing during my time there?
A: It varies. If you have signed up to do a certain job, visit our Volunteer Job Description page. If you are coming as a general volunteer, your tasks may include: helping unload donations from vehicles, moving items to the store floor, assisting in pricing items, assiting in creating displays, greeting customers/answering questions, reorganizing/cleaning departments, helping customers to their vehicle with their new purchases, etc.

Q: How does my time help Habitat?
A: Every task a volunteer does replaces the time of a paid staff. This means that you are keeping our overhead cost down, and allowing us to give more of the money spent at the ReStore to Habitat!

Q: I have a special skill that I think would be helpful to Habitat, but I don't see a category anywhere under the Volunteer Job Descriptions. How can I help using that skill?
A:
Contact our Volunteer Coordinator, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , to find out where you can help. We (the ReStore and Habitat Charlotte) can use all types of skills, from plumbing and electrical to artistic, and everything in between.
