I was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. I moved to Charlotte in 2006 with my husband after living in Erie, PA for a few years. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies from Penn State and a Master of Science in Publishing from Pace University in New York City. I have always loved writing. It has been a dream of mine to one day publish my own magazine. Although I'm not doing that professionally right now, I am doing things to help develop my interviewing and writing skills like compiling the volunteer spotlight each month for the ReStore.
Currently I work full-time as an administrative assistant for a local telephone company. I started writing for the ReStore back in late 2010. I saw a posting for the position, and thought it would be an awesome opportunity to develop my skills and would look great on my resume. Since I started writing the articles, the experience has grown to become more meaningful to me. I really enjoy writing the articles every month. The best part about it is getting to hear the stories of the other volunteers. The Charlotte ReStore has some amazing people who donate their time and energy to keeping the place going. Volunteers come from all walks of life and various levels of experiences. they are people of great character who genuinely enjoy what they do to help the ReStore. It has been so much fun getting to know the volunteers and finding out about their backgrounds.
I am so glad that I decided to start writing for the ReStore. Although I don't get to see the volunteers on a regular basis, I have learned so much from them. I appreciate their willingness to talk to me and open up about themselves so we can share their experiences with other volunteers and supporters.
In addition to writing for the Habitat ReStore, I also volunteer with a couple other local non-profit organizations, including Smile Liberia and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
