Volunteers drive the mission of Habitat Charlotte. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need.  Since 1983, Habitat Charlotte has been enabling working-class families to help themselves become homeowners.

Non-Construction Volunteer Opportunities

You don't have to wield a hammer to make a dent in poverty housing.  Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte has lots of non-construction related volunteer opportunities as well.  If you have a unique skill set not descried below that you think could benefit Habitat for Humanity, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Stephanie Murphy at 704-716-7077.

Non-construction Volunteer Opportunities:

Office Assistant

volnon1officeThere are so many things to be accomplished in various departments, such as Family Services, the ReStore, Accounting, and Development, with Habitat for Humanity.  Volunteers assistance with day-to-day activities and special projects, help Habitat accomplish so much more than it could without that support.
Training Needed: Provided in the office
Time Commitment: At least 2-3 hours per week

Family Selection Committee

volnon2familyFamily Selection Committee members make home visits to Habitat applicants, and attend monthly meetings to report on those visits and accept new partner families.  They are a part of a critical first step for our new Habitat families.
Training Needed:  Orientation provided by Family Services staff prior to first meetings/visits
Time Commitment: 4 hours per month for 1 year; 1 home visit & 1 Committee meeting per month

Financial Counselor

volnon3financialFinancial Counselors meet one-on-one with Habitat’s homeowners-in-process to work on budgeting, planning, saving, and good credit.  These sessions can make a huge impact on the lives and financial stability of partner families.
Training Needed:  Orientation provided by Family Services staff prior to first meetings
Time Commitment: 3 hours per month on Saturday morning per month

Special Events Staffing

volnon4specialSpecial Events Volunteers are emailed about the wide variety of Habitat events that can use an extra hand.  Past events have included a mud volleyball tournament, will workshops for Habitat homeowners, an annual breakfast, a book tent sale, and a health resource fair.
Training Needed:  Provided at the end
Time Commitment: Periodically as available

Lawyer/Legal Services
