AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps*V.I.S.T.A
AmeriCorps is a national service program that provides thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds with educational awards in exchange for a year or two of community service. AmeriCorps members help meet the nation's critical needs in the areas of public safety, education, human needs, and the environment. It was created in 1993 with bi-partisan support by Congress, the President, and community groups nationwide. Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte utilizes AmeriCorps members from the AmeriCorps National Direct program and the AmeriCorps*VISTA program. Check out our AmeriCorps page for more information.
El Salvador Mission Trips
Since 1987, Habitat Charlotte has tithed nearly $3 million to sister affiliates overseas, enabling construction of over 1,000 homes for low-income families in need. El Salvador, one of Central America’s poorest countries, has been the recipient of our tithe and building support since 1993.
A valuable aspect of our relationship with Habitat El Salvador is our mission-trip program. Three trips are scheduled each year. They’re great opportunities for Charlotte residents to participate in 10-day service excursions to build alongside future Salvadoran homeowner families.
