Thank you for considering volunteering at the Habitat ReStore!
Groups - The ReStore can accomodate groups of up to 15 people. Volunteer dates MUST be scheduled in advance. This is a great team building activity for people in your work place, place of worship, and civic group, and a great way to give back to the community!
Donations Dock Coordinator - If you enjoy working with people, this is the position for you! The Donations Dock Coordinator accepts donations directly from drop-off donors and educates customers on what we accept and do not accept to maintain a high quality of sellable goods.
Book Lover/Book Section Assistant - Our book section (housed in Julia's Coffee at the Wendover Rd location) just underwent an expansion, and we have a lot of book shelves! We're looking for folks to sort donated books, learn our pricing system, keep the section organized, and seperate the jewels from the junk.
Mr./Ms. Fix-it Repair Volunteer - A wobbly leg or scratch can mean the death of an otherwise great donation. With a little attention (repair, refinishing, etc) these items can not only help raise funds for Habitat, they can also be rescued from unnecessarily cluttering our landfills. We're looking for someone to help provide some TLC to our furniture and other items that need touch-ups.
Website Content Specialist/ReStore Reporter - Do you have a knack for writing short, catchy articles? Write short (500 words or less) articles to be posted on the ReStore website! Topics will be ReStore-related, from how-to articles to profiles of our special events. We will have some story suggestions for you, but you can also come up with your own ideas! This volunteer position can largely be accomplished from your home computer, with an occasional need to come in for research and interviews.
Internet Sales Assistant - The ReStore is at the beginning stages of an online sales initiative in order to help Habitat build more homes each year! If you have good writing skills and are comfortable with basic internet research and using a digital camera, we can use your help! The job is largely creating descriptions of special items (mostly books and small collectibles) to post on internet marketplaces such as eBay. Opportunities to join this project will be available on a rolling basis beginning in September 2008.
Metal Recycling Project Assistant - The ReStore is starting a Metal Recycling Project in order to maximize our proceeds and minimize waste. You wouldn't believe the amount of appliances we receive that don't actually work! We need folks to help remove metal components (faucets, disposals, drains, etc) from donations that cannot be resold, and sort them according to the type of metal. No skills required, just a willingness to learn!
Pricing Team/Retail Staff Assistant - With donations coming in daily, the backroom can get swamped. Armed with a pricing guide and a pricing gun, the team sorts, prices, and sends the donations out to the floor. You never know what's coming in, and you'll be the first to see the incredible stuff that people donate - from basic couches and sinks to jet-skiis and church pews!
Cashier Extraordinaire/ Customer Service Pro - The front register staff are the first people a shopper sees at the ReStore. We're looking for folks who like to interact with people throughout the day and feel comfortable running a cash register. You'll spend your time with our great staff and volunteers while meeting people from your community, all of whom are supporting Habitat!
Special Event Volunteer Opportunities - The ReStore has a number of special events throughout the year, including an Earth Day extravaganza in April and a large book sale twice a year. We always need volunteers to come out and help during these events, either for a single shift or for the whole day. Email or call the volunteer coordinator to be added to the Special Events list, and we'll contact you when an event is approaching to give you the details and let you know what we need help with.
